Denise Pratt-Renner
niece

Although I was named after my uncle (whose given name was Denis), I did not know Quentin well. In fact, I hardly knew him at all—except for his letters, which were witty and melancholy at the same time. I know I am the poorer for it.

I think of him as a very courageous and admirable person. Being true to himself in the Great Britain of the 1920s and 1930s cannot have been easy. It is good to know that he was able to fulfill his lifelong desire to live in the United States—and especially New York, where he found happiness, recognition, and many true friends.
